Who We Are

Serving God

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to glorify God through discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, missions, stewardship, and worship.

Affiliations

As with every Baptist congregation, Second Baptist Church is an independent congregation made up of its members.  However, Baptists are always at our best when we associate one with another, whether that is as individuals into congregations or as congregations into larger associations.  It is when we come together that we can have larger impacts on the Kingdom of God than we could on our own.

Serving Our Communities

Part of our mission at, Second Baptist Church, is to serve our community and its members. Through numerous partnerships, affiliations, and community activities, we are constantly striving to better our community.

What to Expect

Second Baptist Church’s worship service is traditional.  This means that the organ will play and hymns will be sung out of the hymnal.  Our pastors and choir wear robes (most Sundays at least!) and we have acolytes symbolically bring in the light of Christ to start our time of worship.  We celebrate the Lord’s supper on the first Sunday of the month and at various special times throughout the year (think Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, etc).

Finally, people always ask “What should I wear?”  The best answer? Clothes!  Seriously, you’ll see people dressed in all sorts of ways.  As an example, Pastor Joe almost always wears a suit, and Pastor Carter hardly ever wears a tie!  The most important thing is that you are comfortable and that you are present!

Church Covenant

“Having accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, and having made public our profession of faith in him, and having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and having believed that we have been led of God to unite with this fellowship, we do now, in the presence of God, enter into the following covenant with God and with one another.

We commit ourselves to worship together regularly unless providentially hindered, to study faithfully the word of God, to seek his presence in daily prayer, to involve our lives in the ministry of our church, to use our talents to do effectively the work of Christ in and through this church, and to seek to bear a faithful witness for Christ in our daily lives.

We affirm and commit ourselves to the following values hammered out in the crucible of Baptist history in serving the Lord, Jesus Christ: Authority of Scripture, Autonomy of the Local Church, Centrality of Christ, Freedom and Cooperation, Intellectual Integrity, Priesthood of All Believers, Religious Liberty, Separation of Church and State, Soul Competency.

We commit ourselves to support this church by giving regularly and systematically to its mission. We shall seek to win those of our household to Christ and to magnify Christ in our home.

We recognize the Ten Commandments as the basic moral law of God, and we commit ourselves to be guided in our spiritual and moral decisions by the command of our Lord, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. .  . You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37, 39b NRSV).

We recognize our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit, and shall commit ourselves to seek his control in all of our activities. For we read in Holy Scripture, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19 NRSV).

We commit ourselves to share our lives with one another and to be genuinely a fellowship of believers in the New Testament sense of the word, by making Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives.”

Kids Discipleship

Children's School

In Sunday School, our kids learn the basics of the Biblical story and the fundamentals of the faith.

Every summer we also have a Vacation Bible School.
